Telecommunications and Computer Engineering

The Telecommunications and Computer Engineering programme at ISCTE-IUL was the first undergraduate programme in Portugal to train engineers capable of working on the frontier between Telecommunications and Computer Engineering, responding to the technological challenges of the Information Society for the 21st century.

Presentation

The 3-year undergraduate programme in Telecommunications and Computer Engineering (LETI) corresponds to the 1st cycle of studies of the Bologna process. LETI trains professionals to work effectively in the scientific areas of Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, and the frontier between the two areas. This programme addresses the present requirements for high-quality professionals in a world characterized by an increasing convergence between the fields of Telecommunications and Computer Engineering, which makes LETI one of the most well-adapted programmes to the labour-market needs, not only in Portugal but also in the world.

LETI prepares its students to cope with an increasingly competitive and dynamic professional environment, not only in terms of technical knowledge in the leading telecommunications systems, services, networks and computer systems, but also in soft skills (e.g., teamwork, technical presentation and communication, etc.) required for a quick and effective integration into the working world.

In addition to theoretical training, LETI also provides a strong practical training, which ensures the competence to handle simultaneously the engineering challenges in the areas of Telecommunications and Computer Engineering, both in the implementation and maintenance of telecommunications systems, services, networks and computer systems, as well as in the identification and resolution of problems in these areas.

Thus, LETI provides a wide range of career choices and high effective employability, while also preparing its students for joining a 2nd cycle graduate programme, such as the Masters in Telecommunications and Computer Engineering (METI) awarded with the EUR-ACE quality label by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE).

For all these reasons, a degree in Telecommunications and Computer Engineering is the right choice for all students that have a particular interest in modern information and communication technologies, and enjoy the ongoing challenges associated to the development of these technologies, either in industry, or in a top scientific research environment.

LETI was recognized by ENAEE – European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education, entity responsible for emitting the EUR-ACE Quality Label and represented in Portugal by “Ordem dos Engenheiros”, as a reference master course with quality within the university teaching system, assigning the LETI graduates the title of EURopean ACcredited Engineer.
