Scientific Council

The Scientific Council is the body responsible for central coordination of the scientific activities of the ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon.

 

The Scientific Council consists of twenty-five members:

 

a) seventeen are elected under the Statutes and the electoral regulations of the Scientific Council of the ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, among teachers and career researchers; and among other teachers and researchers holders of a PhD and of a full-time contract of at least one year;

 

b) eight representatives of the research units, designated in accordance with the statutes and electoral regulations of the Scientific Council of the ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon.

The Scientific Council shall operate in plenary session and in permanent commission, holding regular meetings as prescribed by the Council’s regiment.

 

The Chairman of the Scientific Council is elected from among its members in plenary session, by simple majority in accordance with the electoral regulations. The Chairman is assisted by a vice-chairman who is freely chosen by the Chairman from among the members of the Council.

 

The permanent commission comprises the Chairman, the vice-chairman and three members elected under the regulations of the Scientific Council from among its members.

The Scientific Council may delegate to the decentralized units’ scientific commissions the necessary powers for the proper functioning of the ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon.
